Pakistan’s First Animated Movie – ‘3 Bahadur’

3bahadur

In a world ruled by darkness, three heroes will rise from the unlikeliest places!

Being a Computer Science student, one thing that has always excited me is animation. While being proud of the work of two Pakistanis abroad, Mir Zafar Ali and Novaira Masood, I always hoped and wished for Pakistan to start producing animated movies someday, which will not only bring revenue to our beloved country, but also excel us in animation and Computer Science.

Although most of us are already aware of it, for the sake of formality, let me introduce you to Computer animation, or CGI animation; the process used for generating animated images by using computer graphics. The more general term computer-generated imagery encompasses both static scenes and dynamic images while computer animation only refers to moving images.

Early digital computer animation was developed at Bell Telephone Laboratories in the 1960s by Edward E. Zajac, Frank W. Sinden, Kenneth C. Knowlton, and A. Michael Noll. Other digital animation was also practiced at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. An early step in the history of computer animation was the sequel to the 1973 movie Westworld, a science-fiction film about a society in which robots live and work among humans. The sequel, Futureworld (1976), used the 3D wire-frame imagery, which featured a computer-animated hand and face both created by University of Utah graduates Edwin Catmull and Fred Parke. This imagery originally appeared in their student film A Computer Animated Hand, which they completed in 1971. In Pakistan, in the near past, the animated work, ‘Burqa Avenger’ also succeeded in being applauded from all over.

The brainchild of 3 Bahadur, Academy Award Winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy,  is all set to make a splash in the summer of 2015 as Pakistan’s first animated feature. Amna, Saadi and Kamil are the ‘3 Bahadur’ of the movie.

Anchored in reality, this superhero movie is set in the fictional town of Roshan Basti which is meant to depict any Pakistani city.

Seems good, yeah? Check out the promising official trailer!

An exclusive press conference was held at Nueplex to highlight the aim and goals of the movie. At a time when little efforts are extended for children’s entertainment in Pakistan, news of 3 Bahadur is spreading smiles among not only kids, but adult fans of animation. Despite lacking resources to work with, the team behind of 3 Bahadur does not disappoint.

In the press conference, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy said:

“I believe that ‘3 Bahadur’ is going to be groundbreaking because it provides quality entertainment for the whole family.”

Int3ger and all fans of animation wish Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy best of luck for movie and look forward to it. Don’t forget to watch ‘3 Bahadur’ in cinemas when it’s released! Let’s play our role in upbringing Computer Science in Pakistan.
