Yes, You Are A Photographer!

photography

Photography is the process of recording images by exposing light-sensitive film or array to light or other forms of radiation. Photography is of many types like landscape, portraits, sports and action, macro etc. I will be discussing with you a few tips to improve your photography. I have good news for you; do not feel dejected if you do not own a DSLR. I believe photography is not just about a DSLR. First, you need to polish your talent and once your skills are ready, then you should invest in buying it.

“Camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without the camera.” -Dorothea Lange

Let’s start exploring photography with the very basics which lay the foundation in making you a good photographer. One thing you need learn is that you cannot be a good photographer in a day. It needs passion, hard work and practice. While being a beginner, you should keep in mind the following factors when taking pictures.

 • Focus

Yes, it is very important. If your picture lacks focus, its beauty is ruined. First of all, you need to identify your subject. You should decide what you want to capture, and then go for it! Your major focus should be on your subject. You can see in the picture below, that my subject is the flower with bees.

• Clarity

One of the mistakes that amateurs make is that the images are blurred. This is something that destroys your subject. The beauty and clarity of your subject should not be compromised. In the picture below, you can see the details and the subject are quite clear.

• Angles

Not every picture looks good taken at a ninety degree angle. Sometimes you need to move forward, backward, bend, sit down and even lay down to capture a picture with a fantastic angle. Do not just click a picture by standing straight, take different angles and explore where the subject looks perfect. While capturing the below picture, I observed it looks beautiful when it converges to a point.

 • Balance ( No head cut off)

No matter you are capturing a portrait, a landscape or something else; your picture should be scaled and balanced. The head, foot, sides of your subject should not be cut. Leave equal margins from both sides. For example, if you are capturing a subject that involves sky in it, you should observe how much sky should be covered. In the image below, you can see that I have tried to maintain the balance.

 • Take Several Images

It does not always happen that you capture a perfect image in the very first click. You should take several images from different angles, with different styles and techniques. Practice and creativity leads to perfection. For example, if you see the below image, it was not captured as it is in the first click. I had to change several positions to capture this.

These are few of the basic techniques that you need to follow. Till the next article, practice these, share your queries and give feedback. Remember, you cannot be a good photographer overnight but this does not mean you should not try. I can assure you.  Yes, you can be a good photographer. Share your work and always take feedback from others because this is how you can improve.  Inspire, believe, enjoy!
